"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." -2 Chronicles 7:14

Ten days away

It was a day that changed all Americans' views forever.  Views on terrorists, on patriotism, on personal beliefs and positions, on each other.

We are now ten days away from the ten-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.  Nearly 3,000 Americans died in the attacks at three different sites.  People from all over the world that had come to work in New York were killed in those attacks.  Hundreds of the people killed were emergency response workers who responded immediately to the call of duty.  They went in to the burning buildings, risking their own lives, to save the remaining survivors.  Most of them gave the ultimate sacrifice.

September 11th, 2011, should be a day to remember and honour those victims.  It should be a day to show al-Qaeda, along with the rest of the world, that we stand strong against terrorism and will bring our enemies to justice, no matter how long it takes.

The services held at the site of Ground Zero on 9/11 of this year will be open only to the families of victims.  In order to ensure that all family members are able to attend, the public will not be allowed to attend.  Along with the public, there are others who will be excluded as well.

President Obama will be there to give a speech and remember the victims.  All clergy and religious leaders, however, will be excluded along with the general public.  It is not necessary to have a representative from every religion present.  However, having pastors, priests, and whatever the other religions of the victims are is not unnecessary.  In fact, it would honour them even more.  It would not be about the clergy themselves.  This would not even so much be about the family members, though it may bring them some closure.  This would be about the victims and what they believed.

Amid the rubble strewn about on September 11th, 2001,
rescue workers came across a twisted steel cross
that became a symbol of hope for the rescuers and rescued alike.

On September 11th, 2001, Americans united together in two things: patriotism and prayer.  That day, all Americans were praying for safety for themselves and the rest of the country.  How is it not fitting to include that vital part of that day in the anniversary services?
